Online collaboration is broken

Working from Home (or Anywhere) can benefit all: individuals, teams and whole organisations. Yet often, we see organisations ‘making do’ and not ‘feeling’ the benefits or outcomes.

Online work (when not done well) can lead to confusion and may become an obstacle to effective communication, impacting productivity and employee well-being.

We know there’s a better way

We know that working together online can be so much better and truly beneficial to individuals, teams and organisations.

We, and our expert members, are dedicated to enhancing online experiences, making them more ‘human’ and impactful. Our mission is simple: to elevate online collaboration to new heights by implementing better methods, structures, and practices.

We have an opportunity to future-proof the work and well-being of individuals, teams and organisations.

The Institute for Online Collaboration is an independent organisation that recommends effective help–in tools, facilitators, training and workshop/event support.

We have a mission to enable people to work better, together, wherever.

We're collaborating to create real change in online working

The Institute for Online Collaboration (IOC) knows that it is possible to collaborate online in a way that is just as effective, engaging and productive as face-to-face interactions.

A growing group of experts are coming together, making the change happen. How? We provide insights and recommend peer-reviewed products and services that we know make a positive difference.

When you have a complex challenge like an event or change project, we can help to match the right support to your organisation’s needs.

FAQs

  • We believe it's crucial and necessary. The world has changed around us and it’s not changing back. Therefore we believe it’s imperative to help others adapt, build their capacity and find joy in this new landscape.

  • Tools are a really important part of successful online collaboration. We recommend the tools that we use in our work on this page

  • We think so! We are proud of our team, who have an incredible amount of experience and expertise in the field of online work and collaboration. Each member of this team is passionate about supporting effective online collaboration, and doing so in innovative ways so that we always are ahead of the curve.

  • We hold ourselves and our training to a very high standard. We work together with our members to recommend specific online collaboration services and products that align to this high standard. We come together every week to review and vote on new product/training recommendations.

  • We think that online events (and online and hybrid working more generally) are the future.

One reason we think this is because it is so much better for the environment. We know that work related travel accounts for a significant proportion of carbon emissions. This is going to matter even more as global economic challenges grow, people’s calendars get even busier, and climate change worsens. This is why we want to make sure that we (and you) remain effective online.
